Yogi Was A Baby
I
will be the first to admit that I am not exactly the earth mama type, if there
is such a thing.
I can't say that I always recycle, I don't drive an earth friendly vehicle
(unless you count being trapped inside and NEVER driving my VW wagon so
therefore I guess I am good for the environment) or limit my diet to soy and
hummus. I know, I know I am stereotyping here but give me a second to redeem
myself by saying that I do enjoy Yoga. I enjoy Yoga when I can get it and when I
was pregnant with Ruby I got it as often as I liked. It was my one true "time
for myself" activity and it really worked.
Who knows maybe it is a fluke but Ruby and I had an amazing birth experience and
I credit 90% that to my body being prepared by Yoga. The other 10% to
determination because I wanted her OUT.
I took some classes but also practiced a bit at home right up until the end, and
when it was time to have Ruby I had her in seven hours start to finish with no
drug intervention. My cervix was dilated an inch for the last month of pregnancy
and for that entire time I was already 100% effaced. I credit this to exercise
and breathing that I learned from Yoga and also using an exercise ball to ready
those birthing hips. It worked and when the time comes I will do it again. Now
if I could only do it on a regular basis when I am not pregnant!
This age old practice of Yoga is available to moms and babies everywhere but
also on affordable DVD's so that you can enjoy on your own schedule and budget
from home. Babies love Yoga too and a new apparel company is embracing this and
sharing soft, wonderful Yoga apparel with families to encourage this lifestyle.
Ruby has the toddler "upward dog" set and it is not only adorable but generously
sized.
Lotus Children
create garments that as they say, pay special attention to comfort for babies
and toddlers. Their "Omsie" is just adorable and their "Little Om Pant" is a
perfect fit for any Yogi. I can't wait to get a pair of the Women's "Om Pant"
when it is available in August!!!
